Great Decisions 2010
The
Great Decisions Discussion Program is the core of the Foreign Policy
Association’s (FPA's) civic
education outreach efforts. It brings millions
of Americans together in communities,
classrooms and places across the
country to discover, discuss and decide their opinions on foreign policy
issues.
UNA/USA of
the Mohawk Valley will sponsor seven of these Great Decisions discussions this
year
— beginning at 7:00 p.m. at
the Unitarian Universalist Church, 10 Higby Road
in Utica.
- Thursday,
March 4th – Stuart Thorson: the
Donald P. and Margaret Curry Gregg Professor of Political Science and
International Relations, and the Director of the Korean Peninsula Affairs
Center at The Maxwell School/Moynihan Institute of Global Affairs, will
speak on “The Korean Peninsula: Conflict/Cooperation”.
- Thursday,
March 11 – Steve Orvis,
Professor of Government with expertise on Africa
and Caroline Davis, Davis Peace Project Grant recipient, both from Hamilton College, will speak on “Halting
Atrocities in Kenya.”
- Thursday,
March 18 – Mary Chapin, former
President of Dispute Resolution International and Arbitrator for the
American Arbitration Assn., will speak on “Enhancing Security Through
Peacebuilding.”
- Thursday,
March 25 – Professor Atlas Hsie,
Dept. of Mechanical Engineering Technology, SUNY Institute of
Technology will speak on “China Looks at the World; The World Looks at
China.”
- Wednesday,
April 7 – Ted Lehmann, Professor
of Government at Hamilton College, will speak on “The U.S. and the Persian
Gulf.”
- Thursday,
April 15 – Nicholas Jackson, Professor of History at Colgate
University/Utica College and Nathan Richmond, Professor of Government at Utica College, will speak on “Russia and
Its Neighbors”.
- Thursday,
April 22 – Joseph Giordano,
Assistant Professor of Criminal Justice at Utica College
and Principal Information Analyst at Dolphin Technology Co., will speak on
"Global and Transnational Crime in Cyberspace."
