Environmental Expo: Dianne
Stebbins (chair) introduced Rich Morris. He spoke to us about the
environmental expo planned for May 10
& 11, 2008 at the New Hartford recreation center. They want to get the word
out to the general public. The program will be aimed at education in the fields
of globel warming, indoor air quality, green lighting, and organic food, as
well as many other issues. Businesses and organizations will be invited to take
a booth. Wanted, 4 0r 5 major sponsors
and 4 to 6 doz. Exhibitors. They also want to create a network that
will continue afterword to carry on the work. Volunteers are needed for research on programs, possible sale of T
shirts, research on the web for interesting exhibits, monitors in rooms,
trouble shooters on the floor, help on post production, etc. Lynne
Mishalanie talked about ways this could
be carried over into Uticsa Monday Night. She also mentioned the “Smart Car”
(European) as a possible green car exhibit. A shuttle bus from the school parking lot is being talked about
and Lynn is going to see if their could be public transportation on Sunday to
the exhibit.
Hamilton College has a
group discussing sustainability.
Recycling: Jim Zecca is on the common council
and is interested in more recycling. It was suggested that we have someone
at the common council meeting to push for better recyling in the Government
buildings in Utica.
Newsletter: Bill Gazitano wrote up some
research he did on our Carbon Footprint. He will write a short article for the newsletter
and put the information on line.
Green Sanctuary
Sunday, Nov. 25 there will be a speaker on “The Green Sanctuary” at the
Sunday service.
Our next meeting is Sunday, December 9 at
12:00 Noon in the parlor.
